WCS is offering a number of arts and educational opportunities this summer.
Summer Elementary Arts @ WCS 2023

Art Workshop – Elementary
July 10 – 14 | 9AM – 2PM
Ages: Grades K-5
Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Price: $400 per student
Where: Middle School Art Room
Who: Kathy Hehir
What: Each day, students will have the opportunity to explore different artistic media – painting, sculpture, printing and construction. Tuition includes materials and supplies. Students will bring snack and lunch. Maximum of 25 students.

Seussical Kids
July 17 – 21
Ages: Ages 7-15
Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Price: $400 per student
Where: WCS Nehemiah Center
What: WCS has partnered again this summer with Skyrise Theater to offer this one week theater camp, where students will learn a full-length musical of “Seussical Kids” ending with a final performance at 1:00pm on Friday with set, costumes, props, lights, mics, and sound. A pre-recorded audition is required to participate. Roles will be assigned on first day of camp.

Kitty Cat Capers, A mini musical
July 24 – 28
Ages: Grades K-2
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Price: $275 per student
Where: WCS Nehemiah Center
Who: Mrs. Laurie Baker & Ms. Shannon May
What: Children will learn this fun mini-musical, Kitty Cat Capers, that showcases the mischievous, zany, and lovable behaviors of feline friends. Miss Tabitha, a teacher at the “Purrrfect Paws and Claws Finishing School,” sets out to encourage audience members to adopt her playful and scampering students that wiggle their whiskers and shake their tails.
The week ends with a free Friday performance at 11:30 AM for family & friends.
Minimum of 12 needed to run. Maximum of 24 students.

Beginner Strings Workshop
July 24-28
Ages: Grades K-5 & parents
Time: 4:00-5:00 PM
Price: $80 per student
Who: Mrs. Tammy Kaye, WCS Strings Coordinator
Where: Strings house
What: This is the perfect opportunity for families that are interested in the Strings program, and learn more about the Suzuki program at WCS, before committing to the program in the fall. No instrument needed.

Wednesdays: Drop-in Elementary Strings Sessions
Ages: Grades K-5
When: Wednesdays 7/19, 7/26, 8/16, 8/23
Time: 10:00-11:00 AM
Price: $25 per student per session
Who: Mr. Zachary Surapine & Mrs. Tammy Kaye, WCS Strings faculty
Where: Strings House
What: These drop in sessions are designed for existing WCS strings students to come work on scales, music theory, and fiddle tunes.

Kindergarten Readiness
August 14-17
Ages: Entering Kindergarten at WCS
Time: 8:30-11:30am
Price: $250 per student
Where: Elementary Room 110

What: Rising Kindergarteners will have the opportunity to prepare for Kindergarten by getting to know their peers, learning routines, working on essential pre-Kindergarten social-emotional and academic skills, and meet some of our wonderful Kindergarten Teachers!
Registration is for students who are entering kindergarten at WCS only.

World Cultures Week
July 24 – 28
Ages: Grades 6-8
Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Who: Ms. Stevie Fernandez
What: Summer 2023 World Cultures Workshop is a 5 day course aimed at enriching student knowledge of language, food, music, customs, and clothing around the world.
The course focuses on all 5 elements as they apply to one region of the world per day of the workshop: The Middle East, Central America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Eurasia, and the Pacific Islands.
Students will hear traditional music and learn about local foods, customs, languages, and regalia from these regions as they explore the concepts of diversity and interconnectedness.
Tuition includes materials and supplies. Students will bring snack and lunch.

Youcubed Math Enrichment
July 31-August 11
Ages: Grades 6-8
Time: 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Price: $375 per week
Where: Middle School Room 131 & outdoors
Who: Mrs. Heather Holgate and Mrs. Alison Zylstra, WCMS Math teachers
What: This summer math program is limited to 20 students per week and is based upon the Youcubed curriculum developed out of Stanford University. Students may enroll in one or both weeks.
The program is designed to reach all levels of learners; students needing a boost through accelerated students. The goal of the program is to increase math confidence by strengthening their math reasoning abilities through rich discussion, complex projects, and active learning.
Tuition includes materials and supplies.

Tuesdays: Drop-in Summer Suzuki Strings Sessions
Ages: 6-12
When: Tuesdays 6/20, 7/11, 8/1, 8/22
Time: 10:00 -11:00 AM
Price: $15 per student per session
Who: Mr. Zachary Surapine, WCS Strings faculty
Where: Strings House
What: Every three weeks, these drop in sessions are designed for existing WCS strings students to come work on scales and Suzuki repertoire.

Wednesdays: Drop in Strings Ensemble Sessions
Ages: Grades 6-12
When: Wednesdays 7/19, 7/26, 8/16, 8/23
Time: 2:30-4:00 PM
Price: $20 per student per session
Who: Tammy Kaye and Ms. Jamie Thiesing, WCS Strings faculty
Where: Strings House
What: These drop in sessions are designed for current WCS Strings students in middle and high school interested in learning ensemble pieces, such as hymns, Mozart pieces, etc.
