High school is more than just textbooks and exams; it’s a place where students discover their passions, make lifelong friends, and create memories that last a lifetime. We caught up with some high school students who shared their favorite extracurricular activities, and why these experiences hold a special place in their hearts.

Performing Arts: Expressing Creativity Onstage Through Drama and Music

For many students, the performing arts provide an avenue for self-expression in a tight-knit community. Opportunities such as Drama Club and a variety of choirs, orchestras, and bands, not only allow students to showcase their talents, but also foster a sense of camaraderie and a unique form of creativity that extends beyond the classroom.

“We have a lot of fun, and it’s a great community of people.”
“It allows for creative expression and showcases the many different talents needed to put on a performance.”
“I have fun during practices and being creative in a unique way onstage.”
“I love the people.”

Athletics: Bonds, Achievements, and the Love for the Game

Athletics, with its blend of competition and teamwork, has a special place in the hearts of many high school students. With dozens of WCS teams, and additional opportunities with co-op teams, the reasons for the love are varied but equally passionate. WCS coaches are some of the most important mentors in our students’ lives. By example, they teach our athletes how to be their best, as competitors, leaders, and teammates, all for the glory of God.

“I love the team and being outside in God’s beautiful world.”
“I simply love playing the game and I enjoy the team aspect as well.”
“This was by far the time that I looked most forward to during my high school career! I grew closer to some of my best friends that I have now and met so many new people, forming unbreakable bonds.”
“I had the chance to make school history with this team and reach personal accomplishments as well.”
“It was my favorite because of the amazing coaching staff that made every practice and game something to look forward to.”

Robotics: Where Fun Meets Challenge and Career Exploration

The Robotics Club offers a unique blend of fun challenges and potential career exploration. Our mentors come from a variety of engineering and software backgrounds, many of them former WCS Robotics students. Like any team, there are different roles to play, and students discover new gifts and interests in this club.

“It’s a fun and challenging club with a great group of people.”
“The mentors are great and have helped me discover potential careers.”
“I like how everyone can play a part and develop new skills. The competitions are a lot of fun too.”

These high school students have found more than just hobbies in their extracurricular activities – they’ve discovered communities, formed unbreakable bonds, and embraced challenges that go beyond the classroom. Whether it’s expressing creativity onstage, scoring goals on the soccer field, or building robots, these experiences have left an indelible mark on their high school journey. As they continue to pursue their passions, it’s evident that these extracurricular activities are not only shaping their high school experience, but also laying the foundation for a future filled with enthusiasm and purpose.
