After School Enrichment

Each semester after school enrichment classes are offered by a variety of faculty. This is an opportunity for your child to enhance their school experience with an assortment of after school offerings. In the past there have been music classes, art lessons, cooking sessions, science experiments, and much more. Students look forward to this opportunity to dive a little deeper into a topic.

Acting Adventures (Grades K-2)

*Acting Adventures for grades 3-5 will be offered in Winter/Spring 2022

TEACHER(S): Shannon May (Elementary Music Teacher)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Explore your imagination and learn basic acting techniques through theatre games, scene study, improvisation and more.  This class will emphasize self-discovery, creative expression, public speaking skills and team building.  We will also sing together.

Chess Club (Grades 3-5)

TEACHER(S): Beth Banning (5th Grade Teacher)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Bring a snack and come play! Beginners are welcome to come learn the basic moves, and players who know the game will have a chance to learn (and share) strategies that may improve their game.

Christmas Chorale (K-5)

TEACHER(S): Laurie Baker & Shannon May (Elementary Music Teachers)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Elementary music teachers, Laurie Baker and Shannon May are teaming up to work on proper vocal techniques while preparing students to sing Christmas carols and holiday songs.  Songs will include all-time favorites as well as new.  The session will culminate with the chorus singing at the High School Band and Choir Concert.

Crafty Kids (K-2)

Feelings and Friends Club Session One (Grades K-1)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Using children’s literature, crafts and fun activities your child will learn about important social emotional skills such as being a good friend, handling frustrations, personal space, blurting and more!

CLASS SIZE:  6-10

Figure/Portrait Drawing 101 (Grades 4-5)

TEACHER(S): Cydney Cnossen (Elementary Art Teacher)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is for the young artist hoping to develop their skills in figure drawing. Covering the basics of proportion, light, and shadow can be a daunting task to make a portrait look life-like.  But with this 4-week intensive course, students will leave feeling more confident in capturing a subject’s facial features accurately, and develop a firm foundation for drawing in graphite, charcoal, and colored pencil. We will study blending techniques, practice traditional and more abstract drawing exercises, and cover a multitude of approaches in rendering the figure. Any student can draw a figure well…all you need is a little extra practice and to learn the tips and tricks of the trade.

It’s Showtime:  Granny Awards (Grades 3-5)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Tonight’s the night we’ve all been waiting for!  Granny, who has retired from show business, will be honoring all of our favorite fairy tale characters!  Who will win Best Female Vocalist? Best Male Vocalist?  Best Dramatic Scene?  Best Choreography?  Best Rap?  And the most coveted Best Villain Award?  Tune in to see and hear your favorite performers!  And don’t forget to keep an eye on that nasty Big Bad Wolf, as he tries to steal the treasured  Granny Award during the show!  Cast includes Granny, the Seven Helpers, Snow White, Jack (of “Jack & The Beanstalk”), Cinderella and her Prince, Jack & Jill, the Three Pigs, the Fairy Godmother, and more. Includes six musical numbers and two commercials on one easy set. 25 minutes.

Nature Art (Grades 1-3)

TEACHER(S): Cydney Cnossen (Elementary Art Teacher)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Some of the greatest artists have been inspired by nature. From famous modern sculptors like Andy Goldsworthy to early prehistoric cave paintings made with natural pigments and minerals, artists have used nature as art material and inspiration. In this class we will bring the outdoors into the classroom to create art of all shapes and sizes. We will have fun with rock painting, make sun prints with natural materials, and make our own fabric designs with ink printed leaves and seeds. This class is perfect for any child who loves to explore nature and make art from unusual sources!

STEM Club (Grades 3-4)

TEACHER(S): Monica Carty (Elementary STEM Teacher)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:   The goal of this club is to provide opportunities for third and fourth grade students to experience the excitement of problem solving by applying Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) while having fun exploring!  This STEM Club will consist of using innovation, collaboration and communication skills to solve a wide range of engineering problems. The STEM experiments will include the Marshmallow Challenge, Slime Creation, Baking Soda Reactions, Mentos in Delivery Systems, and Bridge Creations, Fun With Robotic.  In the first couple of meetings we will learn how to use our Engineering lenses. The club will begin with a brief introduction about the engineering design process and the necessary qualities an engineer needs (Marshmallow Challenge). Then we will continue to fine tune our Engineering lenses by looking at real world problems and challenges from multiple angles and perspectives. During many of the projects students will have to develop and utilize teamwork, Math, and time and supply management. Technology will be used to complete research throughout all of our experiments.  We will be collaborating with a partner or a group on all aspects of the design phase of several projects, which will encourage teamwork, shared pride, and ownership of the projects.
